How to Play SquadXOX

The daily football grid game where one correct name proves your Football IQ. Here are the full rules, scoring and strategy.

The basics

Name a player who played for both clubs

SquadXOX is a football grid puzzle — also known as a footy grid or football tic tac toe. You get a 3×3 grid. Each row and each column is a football club. Every cell sits where a row club and a column club cross, and your job is to name one footballer who played official matches for both of those clubs.

Example: the Chelsea × Arsenal cell could be Cesc Fàbregas. The Milan × Juventus cell could be Andrea Pirlo. There is almost always more than one correct answer — any valid player fills the cell.

Step by step

Playing a round

Scoring & rarity

Common picks vs. deep cuts

Every correct answer counts, but SquadXOX rewards knowledge, not just a right answer. Each player you name carries a rarity score based on how often other players picked them:

That is the whole game: anyone can fill a grid, but naming the deep cut is what separates the fans from the fanatics.

Modes

Daily grid & live duels

Daily mode

A fresh grid drops every day and it is the same grid for everyone — so you can compare your rarity score with friends and the global board. Come back daily to keep your run going.

Live duels

Go head-to-head with another player on the same grid in real time. Faster, rarer answers win the duel. It is the quickest way to find out who actually knows their football.
